Cookie policy

In short: we do not use cookies, local storage, traffic analytics or tracking tools. Below we explain what this means, what would change if we needed a strictly necessary cookie in future and what you can control yourself.

Last updated: 15 October 2026 · Version 1.0

This is an English translation provided for convenience. If it differs from the Romanian version, the Romanian version prevails.

1. What cookies and similar technologies are

Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser and reads on later visits, for example to remember that you are logged in or what you have put in your basket.

Law no. 506/2004 on the processing of personal data and the protection of privacy in the electronic communications sector is not limited to cookies. Article 4(5) of that law applies to any storage of information on the user’s terminal equipment (that is, on your computer, phone or tablet) and to any access to information already stored there.

The rule is technology-neutral. Law no. 506/2004 transposes Directive 2002/58/EC (the ePrivacy Directive), and the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has explained, in its Guidelines 2/2023 on the technical scope of Article 5(3) of that Directive, that the rule also covers similar technologies, for example:

  • browser local storage (localStorage and sessionStorage) and browser databases (IndexedDB);
  • tracking pixels and scripts that read information from your device and send it to a server;
  • unique identifiers and device recognition techniques (“fingerprinting”).

The basic rule is in Article 4(5): a website may store or read such information only after it has given you clear and complete information, including about the purpose, and only with your consent.

The exception is in Article 4(6): consent is not needed when the storage or access serves solely to transmit a communication or is strictly necessary to provide a service you have explicitly requested.

In this policy, when we say “cookies”, we mean all of these technologies.

2. What we use (and what we do not) on this site

The stridebytes.com website is run by Stridebytes Consulting S.R.L. (“we”). On this site:

  • we do not set any cookies;
  • we do not use local storage (localStorage, sessionStorage or IndexedDB);
  • we do not use statistics or traffic analytics tools (for example, Google Analytics), nor any “cookieless” versions of them;
  • we do not use tracking pixels, advertising or remarketing;
  • we do not embed third-party content: maps, videos, posts or social media buttons.

The fonts (Newsreader and Hanken Grotesk), styles, scripts and images are hosted on our own domain. We do not use Google Fonts or other external font services, so your browser does not connect to Google’s servers when you open the site, and your IP address does not reach Google.

For a limited time, your browser keeps copies of our pages, fonts, styles, scripts and images in its cache, so that it can load them faster on your next visit, as it does with any website. It may also remember that our site opens only over a secure connection (HTTPS). These are ordinary technical browser mechanisms, which serve only to get the site to you quickly and securely. The cached files are the same for all visitors, contain no information about you, and we do not use them for statistics or tracking. You can delete them along with your browsing data (section 6).

The contact form does not save what you type into it on your device. When you send it, the message reaches our server. We do not use an external form service: the server sends the message to our mailbox, hosted by the email provider listed in section 6 of the Privacy Policy. The server does not set cookies, not even when you send the form with JavaScript turned off.

As with any website, when you access it, the server sees your device’s IP address and the page requested, which it records together with the time of access and a few technical details about the request and the response. Our server, which runs on DigitalOcean infrastructure in Frankfurt (Germany), uses them to deliver the pages to you and to protect the site. This is part of the ordinary communication between browser and server: it does not involve storing information on your device, and transmitting this data is necessary for you to receive the page you requested (Article 4(6) of Law no. 506/2004). In the Privacy Policy we explain what happens to this data and to the messages from the form.

3. Strictly necessary cookies

Some websites use a strictly necessary cookie for security reasons, for example to tell real visitors apart from abusive automated traffic. Under Article 4(6) of Law no. 506/2004, such a cookie does not require your consent, because it serves only to deliver the site you requested to you securely. It is not used for statistics, advertising or tracking.

Our site does not currently use any such cookie: the pages come straight from our server, without intermediary services (for example bot protection) that would set cookies. If, in future, we add such a service, we will list its strictly necessary cookies in the table below, with their name, provider, purpose, duration and type.

Name Provider Purpose Duration Type
No cookies at present. The site does not set or read cookies and does not use local storage.

4. Why there is no cookie banner

A cookie banner is there to ask for your consent to cookies that are not strictly necessary. We do not use any such cookies or technologies, so we do not need your consent and do not show a banner.

For strictly necessary cookies, described in section 3, the law does not require consent (and we do not currently use any). The absence of a banner does not mean that we ignore the rules: it means that we do not use anything that would need your consent.

The site contains a few links to other websites, which open in a new tab. This policy applies only to the stridebytes.com website. Once you reach another website, that website’s rules apply, including its own cookie and privacy policies. Our links lead to:

  • vendoevents.ro, our Vendo Events platform: it is a separate website, with its own cookie and privacy policies, which you will find there;
  • reclamatiisal.anpc.ro, the alternative dispute resolution (SAL) platform of the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC), which the pictogram in the page footer links to;
  • the website of the Romanian data protection authority (ANSPDCP) and the WhatsApp privacy policy, which we link to from the Privacy Policy;
  • the browser help pages listed in section 6.

If you choose to write to us on WhatsApp, at the number in section 9, the conversation takes place in the WhatsApp app, operated by WhatsApp Ireland Limited (Meta group), which applies its own privacy and cookie policies.

6. How to control and delete cookies

Even though we do not use cookies, you can always view, block or delete the cookies and data that websites save in your browser. Clearing “site data” also empties local storage. If you block all cookies, our site works just the same; other websites may stop working properly (for example, they may log you out).

The steps below apply to current browser versions. The exact names may differ slightly depending on the version and the language you use.

  • Google Chrome: three-dot menu › Settings › Privacy and security › Delete browsing data. In the same section you can also block third-party cookies. Chrome Help
  • Mozilla Firefox: three-line menu › Settings › Privacy & Security › Cookies and Site Data. Firefox Help
  • Safari on Mac: Safari › Settings › Privacy › Manage Website Data. Safari on Mac Help
  • Safari on iPhone and iPad: Settings › Apps › Safari › Clear History and Website Data (on older versions of iOS: Settings › Safari). Safari on iPhone Help
  • Microsoft Edge: three-dot menu › Settings › Privacy, search, and services › Clear browsing data. Edge Help

In private browsing mode (incognito), the browser deletes cookies automatically when you close all private windows.

7. Your personal data

This policy covers only the storage of information on your device and access to that information. In the Privacy Policy we explain how we process personal data (for example, the data from the contact form or from the server logs), on what legal basis, how long we keep it and what rights you have. You will find the general rules for using the site in the Terms and Conditions.

8. Changes to this policy

If, in future, we add cookies or other technologies that are not strictly necessary, for example for traffic statistics, we will ask for your consent before we turn them on. The same applies to tools that claim not to use cookies but read information from your device. You will be able to refuse as easily as you can accept, and the site will work even if you refuse.

Before any such change, we will update this page. This is also where we will list any strictly necessary cookie, should we need one. The date and version at the top of the page show when we last changed it.
